Restoran
Rebung Dato’ Chef
Ismail owned by Dato’ Chef Ismail and his partner who is Malaysia’s first
astronaut, Datuk Dr. Sheikh Muszaphar Shukor Al Masrie. According to the Dato’ Chef Ismail, the
rebung name was taking from a Malay word ‘rebung’ or bamboo shoot; which is known as one of the ingredient in
authentic Malay
cuisine. Beside that there
was also
a metaphor in Malay proverb ‘melentur
buluh, biar dari rebungnya’ (it
is best to bend a bamboo from its shoot). The proverb signifies that it is the best way to instill good values while young. The
restaurant is open 7 days a week and operates from 11.00am to 11.00pm daily. The restaurant provides two style of service which is à la
carte and buffet. The buffet price for lunch is RM40 and RM50 for dinner per person.

We were greet by the

vivid colour combinations and contrasts, contemporary furniture and a modest
collection of traditional Malay household utensils and accessories. In Restoran Rebung Dato’ Chef Ismail, the all-time Malaysian favorite dish Nasi Lemak was prepared and served in
traditional way on banana leaves and old newspaper. The leaf is believed to give a good smell of the dishes.

Nasi Lemak: tradisional way |
My friends and I started our lunch with ‘nasi impit’ served with ‘kuah kacang’. The softness texture of ‘nasi
impit’ and combination of sweet, salty, spicy ‘kuah kacang’
bring a well-balanced
flavour until the last
bites. The
‘Rendang Daging Rebung’ was also tasted good. The portion size of the meat served was sufficient for Asian people. However
the tenderness of meat was
very
disappointed. This was probably
because the wrong way of cutting, age and fat content of the meat. If you’re craving for Malay appetizer, you have to give a try
to ‘popiah
basah’. The spring roll spread with the chef’s
special sauce, vegetable and rolled bring a great crunchy taste when you bite
it. The last appetizer served
was ‘rojak
buah’. You can pick your favourite fruits at the stall table. The ‘kuah rojak’ was bit salty but the combination was really good.

Overall
I was happy with the quality and service at the Restoran Rebung Dato’Chef Ismail. The price for the buffet is
very affordable because it
served all
dishes from appetizers
until desserts. It
is worthy for you to try at Restoran Rebung Chef Ismail but do not forget to make a reservation first to
avoid you keep waiting especially during peak hours.
